These flash cards have three pictures and three questions. The questions require the student to (1) name the category, (2) name one more item in the category, and (3) name one item that is NOT in the category. This also helps with the basic concepts of negation and category exclusion (what does not belong). Twelve cards are included.

Categories: Negation Concepts
Here is another worksheet addressing the language concept of "not." This is a difficult concept to target, which is why I have made so many materials to work on it! Lots of repetitive practice is needed.
You could also work on this using a set of real life objects (e.g., "Give me everything that is NOT blue. Give me all of the dolls that are NOT boys").

Categories: Yes-No Questions
After mastering the goal of answering yes/no questions to affirm or deny object labels (e.g., "Is this an apple?") I like to move on to answering more abstract yes/no questions about items in categories (e.g., "Is an apple a fruit?"). This worksheet provides 20 of these questions.
What are some of the ways you work on teaching "yes" and "no"? It seems so simple, but it's so hard to teach!

Categories: What Doesn't Belong?
I made this worksheet for one of my clients to work on identifying the word in a group of 4 that does not belong in a category... and more importantly, to explain why it does not belong!
Categories: Receptive Identification
This free worksheet addresses receptive identification of items from a field of 4, when given an object's category. For example: Which one is a fruit? Which one is a number?
